A violent knife attack occurred at Hamburg’s Central Station on Friday evening, resulting in 17 injuries, some of which are life-threatening. The assailant, a 39-year-old German woman, was apprehended at the scene. Authorities believe she acted alone and may have been in a state of mental distress, rather than having a political motive.
The incident occurred between platforms 13 and 14 during the busy Friday rush hour. Emergency services responded swiftly, with some victims receiving treatment inside trains. Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed his shock and gratitude towards the rapid assistance provided by emergency personnel.
As a result of the attack, four platforms at the station were closed, leading to delays and diversions in train services. Hamburg Central Station, one of Germany’s busiest transport hubs, typically serves over 550,000 travelers daily.
