Clemson University has announced Robert Tamura as the interim chair of its John E. Walker Department of Economics, effective immediately. Tamura, a long-serving faculty member and noted economist, steps into the role following the departure of the previous chair, whose tenure saw significant advancements in the department’s research and outreach initiatives.
Tamura brings extensive experience to the position, having published widely on topics ranging from economic growth to human capital development. His leadership is expected to build on the department’s mission of fostering academic excellence and engaging with pressing economic issues.
“This is a pivotal time for economics education, as our students and faculty address challenges like global inequality and technological disruption,” Tamura said. “I’m honored to guide the department during this transformative period.”
Clemson’s economics program, known for its rigorous curriculum and focus on applied research, is poised for further growth under Tamura’s stewardship.
The university’s leadership expressed confidence in his ability to maintain the department’s upward trajectory while preparing students to excel in an evolving global economy.
