GOP Amps Up Impeachment Talk and Courts Brian Kemp in Midterm Strategy

President Donald Trump and Republican leaders are sharpening their midterm game plan, focusing on two key tactics: energizing voters with talk of impeachment and recruiting strong candidates in battleground states.

While Democratic leaders appear hesitant to pursue a third impeachment, Republicans are using the threat of it to rally their base. “It’s a key priority to keep the House majority,” said Speaker Mike Johnson after meeting with Trump. “Democrats have already said they’re going to try another baseless impeachment.”

Midterms are historically tough for the party in power, and Democrats are banking on Trump’s weak poll numbers and economic concerns, especially around his trade policies, to flip the House and possibly gain ground in the Senate.

Trump, however, is determined to defy expectations. He’s actively involved in planning endorsements, rallies, and fundraisers, signaling he’ll be deeply engaged in the 2026 campaign.

In the Senate, GOP leaders are making a strong push to recruit Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, a potential star candidate in a key battleground. Despite past tensions with Trump, Kemp remains high on the party’s wish list.

With control of Congress up for grabs, Republicans are betting that impeachment fears and high-profile candidates could tip the balance in their favor.
